Quick Answer:

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is HSA/FSA eligible with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a licensed healthcare provider. It qualifies when used to prevent, manage, or reverse conditions like obesity or type 2 diabetes.

Crates Health makes this easy. Get your personalized, compliant LMN and handle your reimbursement in one click.

What Is Samsung Galaxy Ring

Samsung Galaxy Ring is Samsung's smart ring. There's no screen: it tracks your activity and sleep and sends it all to the Samsung Health app. You wear it all day and to bed, then check your phone for your walking, sleep and heart-rate records. That's the appeal: you can see how you slept without wearing a watch to bed.

Inside, Samsung lists three sensors: an accelerometer for movement, an optical sensor for heart rate and a skin-temperature sensor. The ring can tell when you're walking or running, and Samsung Health pulls it all together with sleep insights and an Energy Score.

The current Galaxy Ring comes in Titanium Black, Titanium Silver and Titanium Gold, with a regular list price of $399.99. To pay for it from your HSA or FSA, you'll need a Letter of Medical Necessity documenting that your provider recommends activity tracking to manage your health condition.

Why Samsung Galaxy Ring Qualifies for HSA/FSA

The Galaxy Ring qualifies with an LMN if you use its tracking for a specific medical reason. IRS Publication 502 defines medical expenses as the costs of “diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease.” Your letter explains how the ring's activity records help you handle a health condition. A provider can document a number of conditions, and these are two of the common ones:

  • Obesity: If your provider has you on a weight-management plan, activity tracking can be part of it. A 2022 review of 39 systematic reviews and meta-analyses looked at wearable activity trackers. Across them, the results suggested trackers improve activity and body composition: about 1,800 extra steps a day and about 1 kilogram less bodyweight.
  • Type 2 diabetes: The ring's movement records can help you keep up with an activity plan for managing diabetes. A 2023 review of 25 studies looked at people with type 2 diabetes. It found that programs using wearable activity monitors improved their daily steps, body mass index, waist circumference and HbA1c, a measure of blood sugar over time.

Those two aren't the only ones. If your provider ties the Galaxy Ring to another condition entirely, it qualifies the same way.

How to Get Samsung Galaxy Ring Covered With a Letter of Medical Necessity

The Letter of Medical Necessity for a Galaxy Ring can come from either route below:

  • Through Crates, typically in under 24 hours. Start with an online health assessment that takes about 2 to 3 minutes. A licensed provider reviews it and, if you qualify, issues your letter for the ring. Your letter is valid for 12 months and renews each year.
  • Through your own doctor, a few days to a few weeks. Book a visit with the provider who helps you manage your health condition and say you want to buy the ring with HSA/FSA funds. Ask them to document how the ring's activity tracking helps prevent, manage, or reverse that condition. Your provider needs to sign and date the letter, and you might owe a copay for the visit.

How to Buy Samsung Galaxy Ring With HSA/FSA Funds

Buy the ring wherever you like and file for reimbursement. New to these accounts? Our HSA vs. FSA guide walks through both.

  1. Get your Letter of Medical Necessity first. Use either route above, Crates or your own doctor, before you buy your Galaxy Ring.
  2. Buy the ring anywhere. Use your personal card whether you order online or shop in a store. Save the itemized receipt showing your Galaxy Ring and the amount paid.
  3. Get your money back. Crates one-click reimbursement files the claim for you, or you can upload the letter and receipt yourself. If your HSA pays you back, keep both with your tax records.

Samsung.com currently does not accept HSA/FSA cards, so if you buy straight from Samsung, use your personal card and get reimbursed after.

Which Samsung Galaxy Ring Models Qualify

The Galaxy Ring qualifies with an LMN in all three finishes. Pick any size or finish you like. The medical purpose is in the letter, not the color.

On July 20, 2026, the FDA cleared Samsung's Sleep Apnea Feature v2.0, over-the-counter software that runs on a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring paired with a Galaxy phone. It is intended to detect signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea in adults 18 and older who have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Samsung said in July that Galaxy Ring gets the feature this fall. The clearance covers the software; the ring itself still qualifies with an LMN for a health condition like obesity or type 2 diabetes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my HSA to buy a Samsung ring?

Yes. HSA money can go toward a Galaxy Ring once a provider explains its role in your health care in an LMN. Ask your doctor or Crates for the letter, then buy the ring wherever you like. After that, pay yourself back from your account and keep both papers.

Is the Samsung Galaxy Ring FSA eligible?

Yes, a Galaxy Ring qualifies for FSA reimbursement with an LMN that explains its medical purpose. Buy it from Samsung or any other retailer on your own card, then upload the itemized receipt and letter to your FSA, or let Crates handle that for you.

Can I pay for the Galaxy Ring with an HSA/FSA card?

You can try elsewhere, but Samsung.com doesn't take HSA or FSA cards today, and most online stores aren't set up for them. Keep the itemized receipt plus your LMN either way. Paid with your own card? Crates turns the filing into one click: we send the claim, and the eligible amount comes back to you.

Can I buy a Galaxy Ring on Amazon with HSA/FSA funds?

Yes. Amazon sells the Galaxy Ring, and it works the same way as buying from Samsung. Get your letter first, order on your own card, and upload the receipt with the letter. Where you buy doesn't change the medical purpose in your letter.

Are the Galaxy Ring sizing kit and charger HSA/FSA eligible?

Yes, when the ring needs them to work. Publication 502 says operation and upkeep costs qualify “as long as the main reason for them is medical care.” Samsung.com sends a free sizing kit with a ring order; a kit bought separately or a replacement charger is covered by the same LMN. Upload its receipt with your letter.

Do I need a Letter of Medical Necessity for a Galaxy Ring?

Yes. The LMN explains why activity tracking figures in your care for a health condition. Get it from your own provider or through Crates before you buy. Then shop wherever you like and upload it with your receipt for reimbursement.

How much can I save on a Galaxy Ring with HSA/FSA funds?

Up to 30%. Say you pay Samsung's $399.99 regular price and your combined rate is 30%: you save about $120, so the ring works out to about $280. That rate includes federal, state and payroll taxes where they apply. Get your LMN before you buy. What you keep depends on your taxes and how your account is funded.

Can I get a letter for a Galaxy Ring I already bought?

Yes. Getting the letter now is fine, and your account dates plus the letter determine what you can file. An HSA purchase has to come after you opened the account, and an FSA purchase has to fall within your coverage. Upload the letter and receipt for eligible purchases, and for the next ring, line up the letter in advance.
